David Newberry, music
Dear Poets,
We are smack in the middle of switching the website over to it's new form, to match the new art, for the new album. If you are seeking more artistic coherence, please visit again very soon.
1) Me and the band will be playing one of those fabled CBC Toque Sessions on Thursday, January 26th at 7pm at CBC studios in Vancouver. Tickets will be free if you just email rsvp.radio@cbc.ca and tell them you would like to come and see us play. All the info about the sessions can be found at www.cbc.ca/toquesessions.
2) Our forthcoming CD is mastered. Everything you will hear is done. Everything you will see is done and it is breathtaking. Melanie Lambrick took a week off of work to make 15 original paintings. Watch here for some visual cues to the landscape of the music. Our local (Vancouver) CD release will be on March 15th, but I will be on the road to launch the disc starting in late February, and adding more release shows all the time. In the mean time. Find all the info in the shows section.
2.5) The limited edition pre release EPs are sold out.
3) You can see photos from the extremely picturesque recording process of that aforementioned album by clicking here. All new songs. All new players. All new dreams. The record was made in its entirety over 10 days on Mayne Island, BC. with Adam Iredale of Fish and Bird producing, and featuring performers from Deep Dark Woods, The Gruff, O'Mally, DRMHLLR, and lots of others. Here is a preview video, made by Rob Alder, of our live recording.
And another video shot from the cellphone of a passerby. Stick around through all the chatting, as we're quite proud of what happens when the song kicks in.
4) While we're talking about albums, my side-project band LMNOP (James Lamb, Corbin Murdoch, David Newberry, and the Other People) made a record at the notorious HIVE STUDIOS in Vancouver, produced by the incomparable Jesse Gander. It is electronic only. Stream/Download it at lmnopband.bandcamp.com.
5) Me and my good pal Eric Newby have been running a music related podcast for about six months and have more than 15 episodes under our belt. It's called NewbsRadio, and goes out of its way to point out that even though nothing is new, that doesn't mean it can't be exciting. It's a zinger, and we've got one of those blogs up and running to go with it. Check it out at www.newbsradio.com.
